Updated Alabama Red Snapper 2024

in Alabama opened on Friday, May 24 and will run until the private angler quota is met: 

  • When it opens: The season runs on four-day weekends, Friday through Monday, with the exception of the week of Independence Day, which is open for the entire week. 

  • Where to fish: The season is open in both Alabama state waters and federal waters. 

  • Who can fish: Anglers 16 and older need an Alabama saltwater fishing license, and an Alabama Gulf Reef Fish Endorsement if they possess gulf reef fish. Anglers under 16 don't need a license or endorsement, but their catch must be included in a landing report. 

  • Bag limit: The bag limit for snapper is two per person. 

  • Quotas: The combined quota for the commercial and recreational sectors in the Gulf is 16.31 million pounds whole weight. The recreational sector is allocated 49% of that total.
